& Tri-Quarter Gathering of NJ invite you to be a part of our
2020 FQA Art Show “New Beginnings”
Artists-professional and amateur- are invited to submit photos of their visual work of all genres, videos of music, poetry, readings,performances and other renditions of their work as part of our Virtual Art Show and Reception/Discussion. Using Google Slides, Meets and recording platforms, we will feature mainly FQA but also other artists who wish to show. Work need only be related to the theme of New Beginnings in a general way. Quaker Arts Center at the 2019 FGC Gathering
The 2020 FGC Gathering will be a virtual Gathering. There will, therefore, not be an in-person Quaker Arts Center. Look for opportunities to share arts in many forms on line during the virtual Gathering. Click here to see the art that was displayed at the Gathering.
A Story for October
A Quaker’s true story for Tenth Month (October) “Hurricane Betsy & the $25 Dollar House”: A big blow comes to Puerto Rico in 1956. One family rides it out safely. Others don’t.
FQA is excited to announce the theme of the National Arts Project for 2019:
“The Arts of Peace and Justice”
We envision dozens of Quaker and other artists and art supporters around our nation to hosting art events around these important issues in May(or close to May) of 2019. We hope that any programs planned inspire organizers and attenders to delve into them, as well as the connections between art and these themes.
Programs which have proved successful in past years are Art Shows, Performances- song, music, drama, poetry / Art Discussions/ Combination of above. Events can be as small, short, large or long as you find suitable for you and your people and locale.
The Fellowship of Quakers in the Arts has limited funds available (up to $100/event as funds last) to help with the organization/implementation of local programs. Please contact Doris Pulone at dpulone@comcast.net for more info, idea sharing, discussion about this project and your (hopefully!) involvement.
Here are some Queries developed in hopes of assisting you and your group as you think about an event:

As William Allen White says, “Peace without justice is tyranny”. Is justice necessary for true peace? How do we see that playing out in our family, community, nation, world?

The inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most has often impacted the peace that could be. How best can the artist act, make a difference, give voice to that injustice?

Peace and justice are intertwined. Can there be peace without justice? Can there be justice without peace? How can our art help move all of us toward peace and justice?

For those living in some urban areas, long established negative attitudes of the police toward racial minorities can lead to violence and disharmony. How, as artists, can we encourage and demand more tolerance and peace within the police and justice system?

Other Details: FQA is hosting their annual Art Show – this year entitled ” Art from the Heart” – at the TriQuarter Gathering at Camp Ockanickon, Medford NJ on September 27-29. Both FQA members and others may show after filling out an Intent to Show form . Art will be accepted Friday evening Sept 27 (4:30-7:30) and Saturday Sept 28 in morning(9:30-11:30). FQA is also hosting five art workshops and events throughout the weekend including watercoloring, wood turning, handiwork creation, community art creation, classical guitar concert and poetry readings. The Glorious Excess of Colors, Autumn October at Sunbear Studio Westerville, John Holliger
Friday November 1st, at the Sunbear Studio, Westerville, John will be speaking from noon to 1 and 6-7 about the Fine Art Photograph Exhibit that is up right now, in October. Bring a sandwich at noon on November
1st, and enjoy Der Dutchman pastries from 6-7, There will be two different Q & A’s called Secrets from the Photographer’s Notebook.
There will not focus on technique but upon the interior life of art, Fine Art Photography, with illustrations from two painters. I’ll offer ways to journey into and around a work of art, in which we can sense the presence of the artist, and the questions, memories, reflections which often emerge from pausing and gazing.
